Der überfliegende Fisch / Planare (2020, 40x50)

Francesco di Lernia taught me to put absurd elements in contexts where they realistically have nothing to do with anything.

This painting is certainly influenced by Francesco’s beautiful paintings in which one can find bathers in icy water near icebergs, penguins on crowded sandy beaches or fluorescent presences among people.

A tropical fish glides carelessly through the dry branches of a tree in the desert, swimming through the air.

The title came three years later, tailor-made for the person who would receive the painting. An invitation to “fly above” (überfliegen) and glide over things.
